Rockstomper Hydraulic SteeringUltimate power and versatility for your trail rig.
These products may not be street legal in your area. Check local laws. Regardless of legality, hydraulic steering may not be safe for street use. These steering components and systems are intended purely for off-road use.
Orbital valve, with steering column, column bracket, and coupler (sold separately). The Orbital control valve serves the same purpose in a hydraulic steering system as the steering gearbox serves in a conventional (mechanical) steering system. Non-return-to-center valves do not offer road feel. When the wheel is turned, kickbacks through the steering system will not typically feed back to the driver. Return-to-center valves have many of the same characteristics of a conventional mechanical steering system. The caster built into the front axle will tend to center the wheels, and trail influence on the tires will be transmitted back through to the wheel. Because of the large forces and high rotational speeds involved, we do not recommend return-to-center for steering systems with fewer than 3 turns lock-to-lock.
We have reviewed documentation and discussed applications with engineers from
Char-Lynn/Eaton, Parker/Ross, M+S, and Danfoss, all who have
indicated that return-to-center systems can only be safely built
with balanced cylinder systems.
Non-return valves may be used with balanced or unbalanced steering cylinders.
Return-to-center control valves, sorted in order of number of steering wheel turns lock-to-lock:
P/N 100RC. Provides 5.5 turns lock-to-lock with our 2.75" cylinder.
P/N 160RC. Provides 3.4 turns lock-to-lock with our 2.75" cylinder.
Non-return-to-center valves: P/N 100NR. Suggested for use with 2-2.25" bore cylinders, single or dual rod. $350.
P/N 160NR. Provides 3.4 turns lock-to-lock with our 2.75" cylinder.
Orbital valve alone. Other displacement sizes of valves are available by special order. Please call for info if you require a custom setup. We strongly recommend Valvoline SynPower synthetic power steering fluid for use in our hydraulic steering systems.
